Getting online

How to take your shop online in 2026 (without a developer)

20 Jul 2026 2 min read

If you run a shop in India today, your customers are already online — on WhatsApp, on Instagram, on Google Maps looking for "sweets near me". The question isn't whether to be online. It's how, without burning months and money.

The three paths (and what they really cost)

1. Marketplaces (Amazon, Flipkart, Zomato…) Fast to start, but you pay 15–30% of every sale, you compete on the same page as your rivals, and the customer belongs to the marketplace — not to you.

2. Custom website from a developer Full control, but ₹50,000+ up front, weeks of back-and-forth, and every small change afterwards is a phone call and an invoice.

3. A store builder The middle path: a monthly fee, your own branded store, and you make changes yourself. This is where most small shops should start.

What your store actually needs on day one

Keep the first version small. You need exactly four things:

  • Your products — clear photos taken on your phone in daylight are enough
  • Prices customers trust — the same price as in your shop
  • A way to pay — UPI first; in India it's over 80% of small-ticket online payments
  • Your link — one address you can share on WhatsApp and print on your bill

Everything else — reviews, offers, custom domain — can come in week two.

The mistake that kills most first stores

Waiting for perfect. The shop that goes live with 15 products this week beats the shop that's "finishing the catalog" for three months. Your first customers will tell you what to add next.

Where BanaoStore fits

BanaoStore gives you the third path with the hard parts removed: your store is live at yourstore.banaostore.com the day it's created, payments go into your own Razorpay account with zero commission, and we set the first version up with you.
